Earl's Story

“I was really scared at the idea of leaving the comfort of my home to travel to Cuba to deal with a problem I have had for over 15 years. I have been in and out of programs and treatments before but nothing seemed to work.

One of my co-workers, someone who still cared about me, told me about this place in Cuba and convinced me to call Choice Medical Services.

The people at Choice told me that it wasn't a magic cure and I would have to a lot of hard work ahead of me but the results they have seen were good. They also told me that it was not a short term program and I would need to stay for at least a couple of months to have a real shot at getting better.

In Cuba , at the rehab villa where I stayed, I had my own suite which made leaving home a little easier to take.

The counselors and medical staff were experienced and knew what they were doing although I didn't think so at first.

As the time went on, I realized how well organized the place was and as part of my own therapy I became better organize in my life. This was a big part of my treatment and a major force in getting better.

The other thing that helped a lot was being far away from the people, places and situations that made it easy for me to use. The long break away gave me time to figure out what the reasons were for my addiction and the training helped me cope with pressures of coming home.

The thing you need to realize is you have to come home eventually. That's when the real hard part begins, but that's also when the program has it's the greatest benefit.

It's been over 5 months now that I've been home, I feel good and strong and I get my self tested every week. So far everything is good but it is hard work.

I have used the name “Earl” to hide my real identity because I still have to live in the real world, but I will communicate with anyone who has questions and may need a little advice and encouragement.
